Jill Kismet is a Hunter, it is her job to protect the innocent from the creatures that come out in the nightside, terrifying creatures us everyday humans don’t know exist. Jill is a woman with a past that is always trying to overtake her and a future that will be one challenge after another. Jill was trained by the best, her former mentor one of the most respected Hunters ever to live, but the very fact that she is his protégée marks her for infamy and the creatures of the nightside want to test her constantly. After months of endless battles with the creatures of the nightside, Jill is exhausted and thinks things can not get worse, she is proven wrong when she gets a call from the police that will prove to change her life in the most unexpected ways. Fans of the MERCY THOMPSON series by Patricia Briggs or the earlier ANITA BLAKE books by Laurell K Hamilton, will love this new series by Lilith Saintcrow. The heroine is someone that really earned my respect, she is not in any way weak when it comes to fighting but she had a very horrific childhood. This gives her the emotional vulnerability that allows me to empathize and care for her. She is the perfect blend of action hero and ordinary everyday human, when I read a book that is action packed and suspenseful but has a female lead. I want to feel connected to the character and Lilith’s Jill Kismet is perfectly believable in that regard. NIGHT SHIFT captivated my attention from the first moment I opened it, I fell in love with the characters and found myself completely absorbed. I can’t wait to get my hands on book two. |
