After a prolonged absence
from his homeland and family, spymaster and bard Drake is compelled to
return to deliver information concerning a dire plot against the royal
family of Draconia. That’s the easy part of his mission.
Once home, he is faced with the dragoness who insists he is the only Knight
for her, although he knows he is nowhere near good enough to be his beloved
Lady Jenet’s Dragon Knight. He must confront the father whose harsh words
and demands drove him to faraway lands when he was still a lad. He must
console the mother whom he left behind, and show her that his life is good
and meaningful, even if he did not live up to his family’s expectations.
What Drake didn’t expect was to find the woman who could easily become his
mate in the delectable shape of the beautiful and fierce warrior, Krysta.
Nor did he expect to have a rival for her attentions in the form of his
childhood friend, Mace, a Dragon Knight himself.
When Prince William is kidnapped, Drake must band together with Jenet,
Krysta, Mace and Mace’s dragon partner Nellin in order to rescue the young
prince before it is too late. On the journey to find the abducted lad, each
member of this determined troupe will uncover unexpected mysteries about
themselves and each other, finding that their destinies are irrevocably tied
to the outcome of the war against Skithdron.
I have enjoyed all of Bianca D’Arc’s stories, but her DRAGON KNIGHTS
are those closest to my heart. Something about this world and these
characters feels so familiar to me, despite that these tales are paranormal
romances set in a fantasy realm. At the core of them all, these are about
people who feel real, who have desires and relationships we can all
empathize with, and those elements make these books as relevant to our lives
as any contemporary romance could be.
In the newest installment to the DRAGON KNIGHTS saga,
FIREDRAKE, Ms. D’Arc once
again delivers some twists
that will be sure to surprise and delight her readers as much as they did me.
The author continuously infuses fresh characters, species, and legends into
these books, enervating the stories further at a point when some series might
begin to lose their steam.
Not only that, but D’Arc shows us some of the legends fans of the series are
familiar with in a new way, allowing readers to participate in the bonding of a
dragon and knight, an experience that proved wonderfully poignant and portrays
the true depth of the dragon/knight relationship.
Although this book is titled after Drake, it has five main characters, each of
whom is equally as special as the spying bard readers came to know and love in
previous books. Drake proved just as noble and fun as we’ve seen him before,
but with hidden vulnerabilities that pull at the heartstrings and endear him to
the reader still further. Lady Jenet is a tenacious and loyal Dragoness, and
her love for Drake is both heartwarming and heartbreaking as he continuously
denies her heart’s desire. Krysta is a heroine full of her own surprises, and
balances her warrior side with her femininity easily – at least in the company
of the men she grows to care for. Mace is just a rock, his steadfast and
practical nature acting as the glue that binds them all together, but he is also
a man with an unexpectedly romantic heart. Nellin is probably one of the
sweetest dragons ever, and I adored watching the way he is with Jenet.
What about the love scenes in FIREDRAKE, you wonder? Yes, you can
expect the kind of sizzling ménage scenes fans of the
Dragon Knights books have
come to expect! With a premise for the ménage relationships that feels natural
for the story, these love scenes come across as wholesome and romantic without
ever feeling kinky, although these characters are not averse to a little
adventure in their bedroom…
For an enthralling fantasy romance that is sure to curl your toes and leave you
craving the next story in this addictive series, do not miss Bianca D’Arc’s
