Like Lois Lane to Clark Kent, Danielle is just as oblivious of the romantic feelings her best friend and partner, Ben, has for her.  And, just like the legendary Lois & Clark, Ben & Danielle are journalistic partners at a newspaper, where Ben hides his secret alter ego.  But that is definitely where the similarities to the very vanilla Lois & Clark end…

Ben may seem innately gentle, but he has worked hard to dampen the more primitive instincts of his lycan heritage.  Ben has always been uncomfortable with his werewolf nature, but has managed to prevent a shift for years with a steady vegetarian diet and meditation.

When Danielle stumbles onto a story that brings her to the attention of the leader of a local pack, Ben can no longer deny his more primal nature as he fights to protect the woman he loves.  He’ll do anything to protect Danielle, even if it means revealing himself and losing his place in her life.  But ‘anything’ includes embracing the violent part of his nature if he is to defeat the werewolf determined to take Danielle against her will…

I will just go ahead and say it:  It tickles my funny bone to no end to think of a werewolf as a vegetarian!  LOL  And I loved the similarities to Lois Lane & Clark Kent as well…  But I REALLY loved it when Ben let his more primal self out!

Evangeline Anderson more than capably pens a fantastic shape shifter tale in her latest book with Loose ID, Hunger Moon Rising.  The story is multi-layered, and although I usually can figure out the twists in most stories and movies, she managed to surprise me a few times in this one, and I loved every minute of it!

Neither Ben nor Danielle are what they seem when the story starts out, and readers will delight as Anderson peels away the characters’ layers little by little, allowing the readers to join Ben and Danielle on the path of discovery as they finally see each other for who they really are.

Danielle is a wonderful heroine, having survived a tragic marriage, and earning her place as a respected journalist.  She doesn’t just care about the story, she cares for the people behind her stories, ensuring she can’t walk away from them even when her own safety is threatened.  Of course, no story is complete without some romantic tension, and her abusive marriage left her scarred, spurning love and relegating Ben to a place in her life as a mere best friend.

No man could treat a woman with more respect and consideration than Ben does with Danielle.  Everything he does is with the intent of making her happy, comfortable, and hopefully one day earning her love – even to the point of stifling his own burning needs and desires, in fear they will frighten her.

When circumstances finally break down the walls these two have built and they come together, the results are one explosive and satisfying happy ending!
