Every fairy has a wish granted by their Fairy Godmother on their birthday. Even
mortals with only a little fairy blood get a wish. Sounds good, right? It
would be, if you had any Fairy Godmother other than Philomena “Phil” Swann’s.
No, her FG manages to mess up every wish Phil has ever made. Consequently, Phil
has never had a good result from any of her birthday wishes. Some of them have
actually been pretty disastrous, as a matter of fact.
Like this year. This one is a doozy. All she wanted was to be able to stand up
for herself, to say what is on her mind for a change. Only thing is, now she
can’t stop speaking her mind. Worse, she says everything that
comes into her mind – no filter. OK, maybe some of those people deserved to be
told off, but it doesn’t stop there. Oh no, that wish has Phil running her
mouth to everyone – including her fiancée, her boss, and her sexy best friend,
Josh. Phil’s life will never be the same again…
It is no secret that I am a huge fan of Evangeline Anderson’s books. I devour
every book she releases, and I rarely stop and read the synopsis of the book
before buying it – if it has Evangeline Anderson’s name on the cover, I know I
want it.
This author does it all well – paranormal, contemporary, gay romance, straight
romance, BDSM, science fiction, etc. What I have never before seen from her –
and didn’t expect – was something humorous. Then I read WISHFUL THINKING,
the first book in her new SWANN SISTERS CHRONICLES. This book is
funny. I mean REALLY funny! I was laughing out loud through most of the book,
and loving every minute of it. Evangeline Anderson has a fantastic sense of
humor, and this story shows it off very well.
The really wonderful thing is that even though this book is laugh-out-loud
hilarious, it doesn’t lack one bit of the erotic heat Ms. Anderson’s fans have
come to expect. Nope, the book has plenty of great sex – after an appropriate
progression in a romantic direction for our main characters, of course. This is
tricky, because for most of the story, Phil is engaged to another man, who she
lives with. The author definitely treads carefully with Josh and Phil’s budding
romance.
The fact that they have been friends for a great many years helps that along a
lot. The spell that compels Phil to tell the truth about everything also
smoothes the way for their growing romantic awareness of each other. But they
are both cautious, both of them being respectful of Phil’s existing
relationship.
The result of all this caution is an ache that builds in the reader along with
Josh and Phil, and when they finally let themselves go and come together, it is
absolutely beautiful. The fact that they are such close friends makes the love
scenes so meaningful and I find myself looking around my own circle of friends
wondering if I might have my own ‘Josh’ just waiting for me to give him a
signal. *sigh* Ah, if only we were all so lucky, right?
WISHFUL THINKING is a sweet and funny erotic romance that will
alternately have you in stitches and squirming in your seat. I cannot wait for
the next edition of this magical series!
