More than two decades ago, the pony-man saved her from drowning to death. Although a child, Montana Freeborn intuitively knew the importance of keeping his existence a secret. Now the pony-man has returned, although he isn’t exactly a pony-man anymore, with only two legs now. Half-human and half-centaur, Seth Phoenix has always been fascinated by mortals – a fact that has caused him trouble several times before, and has now resulted in banishment from his realm to the live amongst the humans, in human form. When Montana’s horse accidentally tramples him, she tends his injuries and shelters him in her own home. Little does Seth know that both his future and the fate of his mother lie with Montana Freeborn… Spells Cast In Shadows is the first book by Gracie C. McKeever I had the good fortune to read, and it will not be the last! With its powerful characters and an intense plot, it is easy to see why this book was the October Top Seller for Siren Publishing. Montana Freeborn is a beautiful heroine, inside and out. Her giving nature is evident in the way she treats others, the summer program she hosts for underprivileged children, and the way she views the world in general. Unfortunately, it is the innocent trust she places in those around her that makes her easy prey for the villain of the piece. Conversely, it is this same trust that allows her romance with Seth to progress at such a rapid pace. Seth Phoenix is a compelling hero, fierce and territorial as one would expect a centaur to be – especially one who is a member of the royal family. Of course, his noble nature, while admirable, also serves as a roadblock to his romance with Montana as he struggles to deny his feelings in order to protect her. I can wholeheartedly recommend Spells Cast In Shadows to any readers who love a good erotic fantasy with a beautiful romance and a suspenseful plot promising several twists!
