Both Keelan and Charity have come to Lord Chetfield’s estate under false pretenses, although separately.  Each is searching for a secret treasure, possibly magical, that Chetfield is rumored to have stolen long ago.

Their meeting is an accident, but most certainly fated as Keelan and Charity develop feelings for each other.  But can their love survive both their own deceptions and the danger posed by the villainous Lord Chetfield?

I expected to love this book.  I had not read anything by Lois Greiman before, but between my penchant for historical romances starring highlanders and the synopsis for Bewitching the Highlander, I was very excited to read this story.  Unfortunately, the book just did not live up to my expectations.  I found the execution of this interesting plot to be fairly random, with the story jumping around nonsensically.

It was difficult to follow what was happening already, but add to that the fact that both of the main characters constantly lie to each other and everyone else, and I had no idea what was truth and what was trickery through most of the book.  A hefty dose of reader omniscience would have greatly benefited this story.  Instead, I felt as lost as the supporting characters this pair was deceiving.  With the lies Keelan and Charity constantly fed each other, it is difficult to see how their relationship could progress anywhere beyond the physical.  Certainly, it is not a relationship founded on trust.

I have heard from friends whose reading tastes I trust that Bewitching the Highlander is not the best representation of Lois Greiman’s talent.  Indeed, I found that this author was adept at creating imagery with her words.  Unfortunately, I never felt a true connection between the hero and heroine.  Paired with a plot that fell short of its mark, and I have to say this book was a disappointment for me.
