Alena Dubov is the last surviving heir after the tragic loss of her mother and sisters. Murdered by her people’s sworn enemy the Talar; she is the last Imperial Princess of the Rodin and her empire’s last hope. Through her genetics, Alena is able to use her body to power her city. However, her powers must be awakened through a special ceremony involving two men who will bring her unimaginable pleasure. Only men from the line of Volkov are able to awaken Alena’s connection to the city. The man assigned to her died in the attack on her mother, only to be replaced with the enemy, a half Talar Flight-Captain named Vadim. Alena is outraged that she has to sleep with the enemy and confused that she is able to feel an undeniably strong attraction to him. The only question is how will his Talar genes affect her change. With the Talnar hovering just outside of the city’s shields waiting for their chance to strike Alena must complete her coronation ritual or lose all hope for her empire’s survival. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and characters of UNITY. I sympathized with Alena as she struggles with the unknown, trying to be unemotional and detached as she prepares to become like her mother, the previous Impress. She fears that once the change occurs she will no longer be able to feel her emotions. Through it all she has her best friend Sasha, a beautifully handsome man with devilish charm. However, the one who tempts her most is Vadim. Vadim is a half breed who is known by his reputation as a fearsome soldier in the Imperial Guard, commanding a hell-hole back-water colony. With his silver eyes and mysterious air Vadim is more then enough to challenge Alena’s control over her attraction to him. Protective and possessive of Alena I could feel the sizzle between them. Between these three characters we get some pretty steamy scenes that burn the pages. The only part that I regret is that the story is short, but well written and packs a powerful punch. I would definitely recommend putting UNITY on anyone’s reading list. I loved the world Kim created and the idea of love transcending and existing between two enemy races.
