Maybelle de Maitenon is the granddaughter of a courtesan. Not just any
courtesan, but one of the most famous in England and France. Her grandmother
wants to open a training school for men to receive an education in the seduction
of women and her grandmother wants Maybelle involved, much to her
consternation. Maybelle wants to be independent and free from societal
restrictions. The Duke of Rutherford has other plans, especially after he and
Maybelle’s affair is made public knowledge and his reputation is on the line. Edmund is your typical man about town – he likes to play and he has the reputation to go along with his wicked ways. Maybelle de Maitenon may be the daughter of one of the most famous courtesan’s in England, but that doesn’t mean she is a fallen woman – yet. That privilege goes to Edmund Worthington. Maybelle thwarts Edmund at every turn but when her grandmother becomes ill, the running of the school is now Maybelle’s responsibility. Edmund is thrilled to death because he now becomes Maybelle’s pupil. What a new and wonderful talent Delilah Marvelle is. Historical romance is one of my favorite genres to read and finding new authors thrills me to no end. Edward and Maybelle each guarded their hearts closely so as not to be hurt. I enjoyed watching both characters slowly learn to trust the other. Edward was the more cautious of the two; after all, he was a member of the ton and had more to lose. Maybelle was lucky enough to have had grown up in a fairly easy going household knowing exactly the way her grandmother lived her life. While that didn’t make Maybelle love her grandmother any less, it did allow for her to be influenced and use the caution shown in Maybelle’s character. Ms. Marvelle has penned a truly decadent and sensual debut novel in MISTRESS OF PLEASURE. Grab your tea, settle on your fainting couch, and relax with MISTRESS OF PLEASURE. You’ll be glad you did!
