Jon
Walker has finally left his past behind. The product of a sadistic cult run by
his mother and stepfather, Jon learned the art of BDSM while coming of age and
was one of their best. That is, until he had to help take the cult down at the
price of losing someone he loved very much. Now he relishes his seemingly
normal life and his romance with Carly James and wants nothing more than to
settle down with the woman he loves.
When his mentor comes to him with astounding news Jon, refuses to listen and it
isn’t until proof is given that his evil mother is back to her old tricks that
Jon comes to grips with the fact that she needs to be stopped once and for all.
Reilly, the man that rescued him and his best friend Night Thomas need his
help. Jon’s refusal to listen weighs heavily on him but his relationship with
Carly is brand new, not to mention the feelings Night has for her. Jon knows
realistically that there is no way he is going to allow his best friend to take
down the cult again on his own but Jon doesn’t foresee Carly’s involvement. He
and Night both have fallen in love and as such, their dominant streaks are on
high alert. Carly is theirs and they are going to keep her safe, no matter
what.
I adored RETREAT! It is one of the best romantic suspense novels I
have read in a very long time. D/s is a favorite genre of mine and Jon is the
epitome of a Dominant. He is focused on Carly and her needs. He knows that her
inner submissive is the stuff with which dreams are made for a Dom like him and
her safety is the only reason he even considers the mission he has been asked to
undertake. Night’s feelings for Carly are so different from Jon’s but basically
the same. She completes both men in ways they never imagined. I found their
treatment of her to be arousing and exciting. Both men’s feelings shined
through in every erotic and enticing scene. If the men loved Carly, then her
feelings for her men were just as strong. Carly’s acceptance of Jon and Night’s
past won me over as soon as she said she loved them.
RETREAT is
a remarkable look at good versus evil. Add in highly erotic love scenes and my
ménage loving heart was sated. The love each character had for the other was so
realistic I found myself almost jealous of Carly’s good fortune. RETREAT
by Mari Carr is not to be missed!
