The DEL FANTASMA collection isn’t really a series. Instead, it is a collection of stories by a number of different authors, and all of the stories proceed from the same premise – Cody, the owner of a bar called Del Fantasma and a vampire, plays matchmaker. He sets people up by giving the hero or heroine a special drink. The drink predicts what each person wants or doesn’t want but needs. In WINTER BREAK, Nicollete Snow goes to Del Fantasma for a little action with a real live person, rather than a toy. You see, Nicollete tests out adult toys for Santa. She barely gets to the bar, before Jack Frost shows up on his motorcycle. “Six feet plus, of leather and hard muscle sat astride a machine built for sex on the road.” After a drinking contest that left me feeling hung over just reading about it, Nicollete and Jack leave to get to know each other better. Jack and Nicollete both give as well as they get. And they give a lot. Appropriate for a Christmas story, don’t you think? By the time they get to their HEA, they both will have to surmount some dangerous obstacles, including the potential loss of power and life. I loved the back story for Nicollete. She is the niece of Mrs. Claus, who works for Santa. How wonderful of Santa to think of making toys for the big kids, and have his own personal toy tester. Nicollete is not elf. Oh no! She is the perfect combination of North Pole resident and sexy lady – she has the most amazing things in her purse. And it’s not toys! Think about Christmas Eve and Santa, and you’ll go a long way toward figuring it out. She draws Jack simply because she is who she is. One lusty cookie. And even though it’s Jack Frost, he is hot, hot, hot. With an attitude and a motorcycle like that, what else could he be? But he also cares passionately about Nicollete. Here is a hero who recognizes his mistakes and fixes them, so that he can have his heroine. If you haven’t read any of the DEL FANTASMA stories, this is a fine place to start. The story only has a few glimpses of Cody, but his personality certainly comes through. And Nicollete and Jack will definitely be worth the cost of the drink.
